Hate Trumps Everything

Remember that heady time way back in the Fall of 2016, when the Left shouted as one from their Safe Spaces that "Love Trumps Hate"?

The Left was aghast at all the alleged forms of hate that they saw in the form of a Donald Trump candidacy. They even went as far to make up nice signs, and hold peaceful protests to show how serious they were.

Then Election Day happened.

You would think that the United States had suddenly transformed into an oppressive, fascist state overnight.  The young lefties who had never been told no,and always been awarded their participation and "Great Try" ribbons, had no idea how to handle losing.

So what better way to show you are a mature and emotionally stable adult who should have a seat at the table of deciding the direction of a nation?  Rioting of course!  And lots of whining, blubbering, and vulgarity as well....

So, lets review.

"Love Trumps Hate" - OUT

Hate Trumps Everything - IN!

Math v. Vitriol

With Wisconsin lost, all that is left for the Left to do is mewl and spit vitriol.
This is the perfect time for Conservatives to take the high ground, and win the day with calm, common sense, and actual honest-to-God numbers.

As Matt Welch argues over at Reason, "No amount of crying over evil Scott Walker will help governments fix their bleeding balance sheets."

Get Serious About Governing, Democrats
[...]   Wisconsin has been the front line of America's Democrat vs. Republican, blue vs. red rhetorical war for 16 months now, ever since newly elected Republican governor Scott Walker pushed through a budget repair bill that withdrew government from the union dues-collecting business for public employees and removed the collective bargaining power of most government unions, an act that triggered historic public protests. So on the morning after Walker survived a labor-led recall election by a higher margin than he originally won office in 2010, there were plenty on the left grumbling darkly about the Dark Lord rising over our once-free country.
At The American Prospect, Harold Meyerson compared Walker's actions to a "jihad" and suggested (paradoxically) that a post-union labor movement might just resort to rioting. Walker "wins one for the plutocrats," Joan Walsh lamented at Salon, without really explaining how the monocle-wearers could win 38 percent of the union vote.
Such demonization was of a piece with leftish commentary in the run-up to the recall. Esquire's Charles P. Pierce described Walker as a "goggle-eyed homunculus hired by Koch Industries to manage its midwest subsidiary formerly known as the state of Wisconsin," which would now be subject to "the habits of oligarchy." Even more grossly, The Nation's Katrina vanden Heuvel wrote in The Washington Post that Walker's policies were intended to "cleanse the electorate of people who don’t look, earn or think like him."
[...]
So, progressives: What is the right percentage of a government budget to be spent on public sector pensions? If this requires that cities and states simply need to come up with bigger budgets (through increased taxes) precisely how much bigger would be appropriate? If you don't want to increase overall budgets, what other government services are you willing to cut?
[...]
As long as Democrats keep dodging these questions, no amount of plutocrat-baiting will reverse their political fortunes. Governments at all levels are out of money. Progressives are going to have to come up with a better response to that than saying "we were robbed."

Indeed....

Dear Brett Kimberlin...

I won't be moving to an undisclosed location....

(No slight intended to the esteemed Robert Stacy McCain, who obviously felt the actual threat required such action.  I just saw the picture in my blog history, and the idea popped into my head...)

America, The Gulliver of Nations

Powerline posts a keen insight on how Great Britain's present, may become our future:
Once the federal government becomes so deeply involved in allocating health care, it will come to be a dominant focus of political discourse.

Over the years watching on C-Span the British Prime Minister's Question Time, I've observed that a large portion of this exercise is devoted to specific questions about the quality care provided by The National Health Service in members' districts. A question on the terrorists threats to the UK will invariably be followed by a passionate query from a Member asking the PM if he's aware of nurses being re-assigned at a hospital in Sheffield. The PM seems to spend as much time on parochial health care issues as on national security.

The politics of deciding who gets what in the way of medical treatment doubtlessly will push aside traditional affairs of state. Every member of Congress will need to hire several staff members just to manage constituents' complaints about their care. Elections will be won and lost on the basis of who can get the most in the way of health care for their districts.

We will become the Gulliver of nations, a great power whose leaders are tied up in strings as they spend much of their time addressing the medical complaints, valid and imagined, of their electorate.
We *will* become the Gulliver of nations. And it will not just be due to healthcare. The more our Federal government becomes so deeply involved in the regulation of anything and everything (education, the environment, banking, retirement, fishing, car manufacturing....etc), the more we tie ourselves down. The more the Liliputians UN bureaucrats will take advantage of us. The more we will make ourselves irrelevant.

Tales From The Echo Chamber....

More developments out of the 'Coffee Party', or as I coined them, the 'Latte Party'
Coffee Party is a no-show on Fox and Friends
They did not accept the interview invitation because it would be "focused on fostering ongoing political divisions..."
In other words, we don't what any differing opinions from entering our liberal echo chamber...

News flash for the 'Coffee Party' crowd...there will always be "ongoing political divisions". That is how liberty and democracy work. People have free and differing opinions, they debate..they
disagree...

I suspect that what this collectivist coffee klatch really means is that they only want to be interviewed by those who will tell them how courageous they are and won't challenge their sensitive ideals.

Thus if all they ever hear are supportive and re-affirming voices (hence the echo chamber), then they can convince themselves that they are the
real voice of the American people, and not those racist, red-neck fascists and their Tea Party....

Pelosi-Care Holiday Anthem

Pelosi-Care
(to the tune of "Tannenbaum")

Pelosi-care! Pelosi-care!
It makes our health plans equal.
Pelosi-care! Pelosi-care!
I see a Commie sequel.

The current plan is just a start:
She'll take our freedoms all apart.
Pelosi-care! Pelosi-care!
Her chutzpah knows no equal.

Pelosi-care! Pelosi-care!
With Harry Reid's assistance,
Pelosi-care, Pelosi-care,
Will overcome resistance:

Oh, single payer's on its way!
The ghost of Marx will shout hurray!
Pelosi-care! Pelosi-care!
You'll buy at her insistence.

Pelosi-care! Pelosi-care!
The public is affrighted.
Pelosi-care! Pelosi-care!
Obama grins, delighted:

His leftist envy's proven pure;
His legacy is now secure!
Pelosi-care! Pelosi-care!
Some wrongs cannot be righted.

Nanny State Weekend

Congratulations America, this is what you voted for.... View how little the left thinks of you...

Taxes:
On whether the Obama Administration will break its pledge not to raise taxes on 95% of Americans in order to pay for Trillions in new spending, Tim Geithner said:
"We’re going to have to do what’s necessary.”
That's reassuring! I think that this can be translated as "We are going to do whatever we want to get the money", since most Americans don't see all the spending as "necessary".

Health Care
:
With public opinion turning against the health care proposals in Congress, the left reveals that they think they know better than everyone else.
"47% of people who have coverage don't want change, they don't like what they are hearing. Now, they may not know what is good for them..."

Thanks Andrea. There is an executive position waiting for you at the HHS Public Affairs office...

Personal Freedom:
Individual liberties? Personal responsibility? Anachronisms of a different era. Welcome to the age of the coddling Nanny State in New Hampshire....
"Our State portrays an unfriendly message that every individual has to succeed on their own, rather than count on a support system for assistance (Live Free or Die is not a friendly, supporting message that appeals to young people)."
Hmmm....if the message is considered "unfriendly" by government bureaucrats now, I wonder how much longer it might be before expressions of personal freedom could be considered hate speech? Or at least incompatible with the common good....

This is the Nanny State you voted for. Revel in it....but not too loudly, or by consuming anything with transfats...

Selective Meddling

While attempting to set a new standard for media butt-snorkling idolatry, the AP inadvertently exposes an inconsistency in President Obama's foreign policy stances....
America's president and Africa's son, Barack Obama dashed with pride onto the continent of his ancestors Saturday, challenging its people to shed tyranny, corruption and conflict in favor of peace. Campaigning to all of Africa, he said "Yes you can."

[...]

"Africa doesn't need strongmen," Obama said. "It needs strong institutions."
The son of a white woman from Kansas and a black man from Kenya, Obama bluntly told Africa to take more responsibility for itself but proclaimed: "America will be with you."

Hmmm...those words have the distinct odor of the previously officially shunned policy of "meddling".

OK, so it isn't really meddling, but it is certainly much stronger rhetoric than we saw out of the President when it came to the uprising in Iran, where he went out of his way not to "meddle".

It would have been nice to see the sycophantic AP print the following graph during the Iran crisis:
America's president, Barack Obama, challenged the Iranian people to shed tyranny, corruption and conflict in favor of peace. Campaigning to all of Iran, he said "Yes you can."

[...]

"Iran doesn't need mullahs and strongmen," Obama said. "It needs strong democracy and freedom." Obama bluntly told Iran: "America will be with you."
Would that have been so hard for the President??

Independence Day v. Dependence Day

Thanks to Dinocrat (via Larwyn), we can read and compare the first Fourth of July speeches given by the last two Presidents.

I took the liberty of putting the two transcripts into Wordle, to see what might pop out.

So you tell me, which of the following word clouds actually looks like it's subject is 'Independence Day'?

Maybe some speechwriters have a different feel for what words people associate with Independence Day, but I have to tell you, word cloud #1 does not jump out at me. Word cloud #2 does.

I leave it up to you to figure out which speech was given in 2001 and which in 2009....

Obama's Two Americas

Remember John Edwards? I think he ran for President....

Anyhow, he had this class envy meme he used to push, about how there were "Two Americas".

"One America that does the work, another that reaps the reward" he would say....as if America's rich only lounged by the pool while someone working their second minimum-wage job served them grapes and chocolate truffles before riding home on the cross town bus.

Well, perhaps Mr Edwards will find the gumption to run for President again in 2012, so that he can direct his angst at the newly emerging "Two Americas".

Those politically connected groups who have markers to cash in -- Obama's Winners

And American consumers and capitalists -- Obama's Losers

The first group has what the second group wants ($), and the Obama Administration is going to help them get it. Michael Barrone recently coined this as "Gangster Government"

But is was Newt Gingrich who has coined the new political classes of Obama's Winners & Obama's Losers. Newt says "...the Obama Administration has elevated rewarding some Americans and punishing others to a governing philosophy."

Lets take a quick look at some....
Winners: The United Auto Workers
Loser: The Rule of Law

Winners: The People Who Are Evading Responsibility for Chrysler’s Bankruptcy
Losers: Consumers Who Want to Buy Good American Cars

Winners: Government Favored “Green Industries”
Losers: Anyone Who Heats a Home, Drives a Car or Has a Job

Winners: Terrorists and Anti-Americanism Worldwide
Losers: The New Neighbors of Terrorists and The American Tax-Payers

Winners: Anyone the President Deems Deserving of Judicial “Empathy”
Losers: Everyone Else

Winners: Professional “Community Organizers” and Other Government Activists
Losers: Young Americans Who Want to Chose Their Own Careers

Check out the entire article for the details behind this list of Winners and Losers...

Tea Time in Georgia

Some shots from the Tea Party in Warner Robins, GA....

A couple of hundred "extremists" milling about. Looking to do no good, no doubt...

They must be "extremists", since there are two 'Don't Tread on Me' flags in one picture...

These guys are carrying some less extreme flags. They might be OK....

Honk if your paying someone else's mortgage....

Even Union guys want to hang with pretty "extremists"

Today's Miracle, Tomorrow's Tragedy

There is a lot being made today over the high-risk, yet successful surgery performed on a 7 year old girl, where she had 6 organs removed, and 3 re-implanted.

The media (MSNBC, USA Today) is billing it as a "miracle". What the media doesn't mention is the fact that this tremendous, and again high-risk, procedure is a fantastic reflection of the great health care we have, it is also an example of medical miracles that *won't* be available should we choose to go down the proposed road of a nationalized health-care program. In the video at the MSNBC link, the mother implores parents of sick children not to stop with a second-opinion, in other words 'don't take no for an answer'.

Unfortunately, in the future, another child seeking this procedure very well may hear "NO" from a government mandated health-care system that seeks to reduce costs, and avoid "high-risk".

However I wouldn't put it past future health commissars to actually perform a few of these procedures, in order to have "miracles" in order to display the efficacy and benevolence of government health care. I guess you can call me cynical.....

Video Stimuli

Feeling a weight of dread in these dark hours, before our political betters impose upon our children and grand-children unending seas of debt?

Well, sit up straight, and watch this inspring video of free-thinker and a small-minded blowhard.

Thanks to Jack Dunphy, guest posting over at Paterico's, for this great find. I am off to youtube to find more similar inspiration.

Over the past two weeks, I have re-read Animal Farm, and am working my way through the second half of Atlas Shrugged. I think my next re-read will be Friedman's Free to Choose...

First They Came For the Executives...

Today Obama struck a blow for America's self esteem, and punished work that results in failure:
"President Barack Obama took on bailed-out Wall Street firms on Wednesday, setting a $500,000 annual cap on pay for top executives at companies receiving taxpayer funds and tapping popular anger over financial sector excesses."
Now, of all the ideas that have rolled out in the last 2 weeks, this is certainly not the most objectionable. But are there limits to this idea?
"This is America, we don't disparage wealth. ... What gets people upset, and rightfully so, is executives being rewarded for failure. Especially when those rewards are subsidized by U.S. taxpayers," he said.
If this is the road that Obama wants to go down, the real question needs to be...how far is he prepared to go??

Will he be prepared to call for a limit on the salaries of professional athletes? Much of their exorbitant paychecks are due to ticket sales. Tickets to seats in many stadiums around the country that are subsidized by taxpayer funding. If they had to play in stadiums actually affordable to their team's owner's wallets, there would be no glut of money to pay them millions. New, shiny, tax-payer funded stadia/arena permit the owners to shower manna upon these athletes. And by definition, most of these players are failures, but still accept millions without shame. Thus I would expect Obama to call on the NFL, NBA and MLB to cap their salaries...or else they could feel some pain...Janet Reno style!

Better yet, and perhaps more relevant to this whole bailout/stimulus, will Obama call for a cap on salaries of actors/actresses/executives who get paid millions by studios who take advantage of a possible Stimulus tax breaks for movie project flops? If Hollywood is to benefit directly from the 'stimulating' generosity of future generations, should it not be treated like the executives of bailout slurping companies?? It would be painful to see our favorite starlets wandering around the Cannes and Sundance festivals asking...
"Who is John Galt?"

Of course I will not hold my breath. What I am really waiting for is the arrival of the Equalization of Opportunity Act, soon to emerge from inner sanctum of the Speaker of the House...

The Greatest Country on Earth

Alas, the election is over. Congratulations to Barrack Obama.

While his election is disappointing based on my personal political philosophy, I believe that it is a demonstration on many levels as to why the United States of America is the greatest country on the face of the earth. He was not my candidate by a long shot, and I will not agree with him on probably 95% of issues, but he will be my President. Because I am an American, thick or thin.

And because the liberties of America allow me to do so, I look forward to Nov 2012 when we can hopefully elect a Conservative president to right the many things that I think President Obama will do wrong.

Thus, when I get home shortly from my posting here in Afghanistan, I have 3 books that I intend to read before Inauguration Day to put me in the right frame of mind to fight for conservative reform in a country that will be politically dominated by liberal rule.

1) Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand: Who is John Galt? I don't know, but I am going to find out....and hope that the next four years don't follow this plot.

2) Real Change - From the World that Fails To the World That Works by Newt Gingrich: what would sensible conservative reform look like. I have always been drawn in recent years to Newt Gingrich's common sense words on producing changes from the 'right' perspective.

3) Grand New Party: How Republicans Can Win the Working Class and Save the American Dream by Ross Douthat & Reihan Salam: While the GOP may have proven itself moribund, it is the only viable political vehicle for conservative reform. How might we set it right? I will start with this tome

God bless and good reading.....

Polar Bear Party Poopers

Instapundit talks about some good economic news on the Tennessee front:
In the face of rising demand for coal, Knoxville-based National Coal Corp. plans to expand production by re-opening some idle mines in Tennessee and Alabama and by digging one new underground mine in Tennessee.
Unfortunately he does not consider the sure-to-be-follow-up-story that we all know is coming. It will read something like this.....

"National Coal Corp's plans to expand coal production have been put on hold after the National Resources Defense Council and the Sierra Club filed suit in Federal Court to block the mining. They argue that mining for coal has a direct contribution to Global Warming, and thus has a direct negative effect on the Polar Bear which was recently placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Interior Department."

Welcome to our future folks!

UPDATE: For some good background on this issue, go read Hugh Hewitt's punditry:

Your Papers Please

It is predictable that the left would portray today's Supreme Court decision on Voter Identification laws as a blow against freedom and proof of the erosion of civil rights.
The court vote 6-3 to uphold Indiana's strict photo ID requirement. Democrats and civil rights groups say the law would deter poor, older and minority voters from casting ballots.
Funny, strict ID requirements don't seem to deter 'poor, older and minority' persons from driving.

If you can stand your butt in line for hours to get a license, then you can spare 20 seconds to pull it out and show it to the poll workers.

Stop whining....

UPDATE: From Doug Ross...much more than driving...
"Put simply, the only thing voter ID deters is fraud. Without identification, a person cannot apply for welfare, can't drive, can't fly, can't hold a job, can't have a bank account, can't apply for either social security, Medicare or Medicaid, and can't apply for food stamps or WIC. So much for hurting the "elderly, poor and minorities."

Let It Begin Here

"Stand your ground. Don’t fire unless fired upon, but if they mean to have a war, let it begin here."

232 years ago, a group of bitter men clung to their guns and religion, driven by their antipathy towards people who weren't like them. It the end, I think it worked out OK.
[Update: Someone has pointed out that this was actually 233 years ago. They are of course correct. Ironically, I had done the math correctly, as the year that was running around in my head was 1776...instead of 1775. Damn that public school education....]

For a more than complete send up of this historic event, please go and read Jules Crittendon's posting, 'April Morning'.

To this day, the man below stands resolute, clinging to his gun, under the flag of a free and democratic country.
